FAQ
Is there more caffeine than in coffee?
It depends on how you brew it. Prepared the traditional way — refilling until it almost tastes like water (around 50 g) — you actually get more caffeine than from a cup of coffee. But cup for cup it is less, and it depends on how strong your coffee is anyway.
What you feel: enough to keep you sharp and present all day — but not so much that your sleep is ruined or your heart feels like leaving your chest at three in the morning.
It is organic and unsmoked. Why should I care?
Organic means the leaves grew without pesticides — what you drink is clean, the way the plant actually tastes.
And unsmoked: a lot of yerba mate is dried over open fire, which gives a heavy, smoky taste. Ours is air-dried, so you get the fresh, green character instead — not an ashtray in your cup. Real differences in taste and origin, not words on a label.
Will KA'AY make me a better person?
No. But it is the closest thing to something that does not.
Why do I crash less from mate than from coffee and energy drinks?
Mate is drunk in small sips, which spreads the caffeine out over a longer stretch of time. That is a different experience from coffee or an energy drink, where a high concentration of caffeine hits you fast.
Along with caffeine, antioxidants and vitamins, yerba mate contains theobromine — a natural plant compound in the same family as caffeine, but gentler on the body. It has a mild stimulating effect on the blood vessels and circulation.
It is the combination of caffeine, theobromine and other natural plant compounds that makes yerba mate more than just a source of caffeine. That, plus the gourd itself, which limits how much you can drink at once, gives you a steady stream of energy that keeps you focused and sharp.
